New Book about Brookline Published

Brookline GreenSpace Alliance is pleased to announce the publication of Landscapes of Brookline – An Enduring Legacy, a book of color photographs of Brookline’s beautiful public and private open spaces. According to Frances Shedd Fisher, who edited the book for BGSA, “Our intention is to call attention to Brookline’s unusual legacy of green and to the culture of stewardship, philanthropy and volunteerism that have helped define our town over so many years. It is unusual for one small, semi-urban New England community to have historic landscapes like Larz Anderson Park, and a portion of the Emerald Necklace, plus a working farm, and nature sanctuaries. That abundance is something to celebrate.” The book, designed by Marian Lazar, contains more than 200 photographs taken by local photographers Shedd Fisher, Lazar, Jean Stringham, Bruce Wolff and Judy Wong. In addition, there is a short history detailing some of the acts of philanthropy and advocacy, past and present, that have contributed to the greening of Brookline.

BGSA President, Arlene Mattison, observed, “We believe the book we have created is unique, the first that focuses on the parks and trees and playgrounds that make Brookline so livable. Our goal is to open eyes to the value of what is around us and to encourage active support of a greener Brookline.”

Landscapes of Brookline is available for $34.95 at Brookline Booksmith or directly from BGSA by calling BGSA Executive Director, Edward Hsieh, at 617 277-4777 or by mail. To order by mail, click here for order form.
